Saw 2004

Directed by James Wan, this movie stars Cary Elwes, Leigh Whannell and Danny Glover, Shawnee Smith and Tobin bell in the lead. Adam and Lawrence wakes up in a bathroom their ankle chained to pipes. They find a corpse lying in between holding a cassette recorder and a revolver. Also their are cassettes in each of their pockets, listening to which they find that Adam must escape and Lawrence must kill him before 6. They also find two chainsaws later by which they try to cut their chains but in vain. Lawrence tells Adam that they are being held captive by a maniac killer Jigsaw who don't kill his victims but wants them to survive undergoing a psychological and physical torture. He wants them to appreciate life and not take it for granted. Now they realize that the hacksaw is not to cut the chains and instead to cut their feet to set free. Also Lawrence's wife and daughter are held captive by someone who is looking at both of them. Now he must escape in order to save them, but for that he must kill Adam. What will happen next? Will he kill Adam or they both work out some other way is how this bone chilling movie progresses unfolding new suspense and mysteries. The movie is a psychological gore and sadist horror.

The direction of movie is exceptional. Both the roles of Adam and Lawrence are played nicely. Interest builds up automatically as the movie progresses and you tend to be in it feeling the tension and the tensed atmosphere, all regards to the brilliant screenplay and of course the amazing direction of James Wan. The soundtrack and the background score is equally good. The movie is intense in gore terms and is not meant for light heart individuals. Its thrilling, its chilling and its full of mysteries unfolding till the end. Watch for twists to twist your minds. Overall the movie holds up too well and being a little slow never bores you. In-fact a must for all psycho-thriller lovers.

Badmaash Company [2010]

Directed and written by Parmeet sethi this movie is produced under Yashraj banner. the story is about four graduate teenagers Karan, Bulbul, Zing and Chandu played by Shahid, Anushka, Chang and Vir respectively who decides to start off their own business by smuggling in foreign goods in India avoiding heavy import duties. They name the venture 'friends and company'. But soon Indian PM decides to lower down import duty from 120 to 20 %. Its the time when they decide to move to Bangkok and start their business there. Meanwhile Karan also falls in love with Bulbul. What happens in Bangkok with them and their fate is the rest movie.

Making his debut through this movie, Parmeet is not bad at all. the story is refreshing atleast for bollywood and is directed above average. The movie is entertaining in some parts and so is not a great movie but its still nice. Not so great act by Shahid but he is decent not exactly doing over acting. Obviously very less space for him to shake his boots. Anushka has done a nice job too and is looking hot contradicting her image of Rab ne bana di Jodi. Chang and Vir are also nice. Story is quite predictable and its the lacking point. No chart buster from the movie though the music is composed by Pritam. Still Ayashi and Chaska are nice in movie. Nothing is too boring to avoid the movie. The movie is a nice timepass and a nice one time watch.

Coraline [2009]

Coraline is an animated flick directed by Henry Selick. Its based on the book written by Neil Gaiman a British author. Its a story of a girl Coraline. When she moves into a new house, her life becomes boring without her friends. Her parents are always busy in their stuff and she feels neglected. Then she finds a hidden door which attracts her interest and she asks her other for the key. Her mother accepting her demand opens the door and they find bricks beside the door. Enthusiastic Coraline loses the mood and return to her usual activities. Its in the night time that she follows the rats and finds the door open and a maze instead of bricks. She enters inside to find a parallel reality or world where she finds her parents too and the same world of her. The difference here is that her parents are very caring and loving and fulfills her every desire. But they have buttons intead of eyes which is not taken into much account by the happy girl. She wakes up to find herself in the same bed and with her real parents. What happens again on night? Does she try to enter the gate again? What do the other parents want? Will she like to stay in the other reality? This is what all the rest movie is about.

Well this movie is certainly different from the rest animated movies. It touches the concept of parallel world. This one is not mere a child entertainer and can be viewed by all fantasy lovers easily. Its not a happy go movie with fun elements and can easily be differentiated within the crowd. I just loved the music theme of Coraline. The music holds the movie well throughout. It builds the mysterious surrounding. Seeing from animation point of view, amazing work is seen in post production. The movie is not at all boring and in fact holds you till the end. A worth watch for all.

La habitación de Fermat aka Fermat's room [2007]

This Spanish movie is directed by Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopeña. The story takes a shape of Cube sooner you get involved in it. So not a big surprise there. Well the story is basically that four mathematicians are invited upon by an unknown guest who call himself Fermat or you can say that these 4 are able to solve the puzzle required to qualify for the meeting. All the four strangers are new to each other. The purpose of the meet is to solve the greatest enigma ever. But what is this enigma no one knows. On meeting each other they find a way to the Fermat's room and gather there. Soon Mr Fermat also arrives but before the enigma is put up they decide to have a supper. soon after the supper Fermat recieves a call from the hospital where his daughter who's ill is admitted. He ask everyone that he'll be back soon and they can carry on for the time being. Fermat leaves the room but forgets his jacket and this is where the story begins. What will happen next is all what Fermat's room is all about.

Well as you move in the movie, you find things pretty similar to cube. So not a surprise there. Still the movie goes well with all the Thrill lovers. It has got some brain twisting puzzles with interesting solutions for each. So if you guys like these things, a treat for you is waiting. Acting in this movie can be neglected , not much is required as per the script. Still some plot holes can be clearly seen. The direction is nice not great and so is the script which i think could have been winded more effectively. With a running time of 90 minutes it never bores you though and is quite refreshing. Good concept is what should be appreciated here. Well it is packed with some mystery and twists in the end , so watch out for that. Overall a good movie which could have been better .

The Shawshank Redemption [1994]

 

The Shawshank Redemption is drama movie directed by Frank Darabont. Its based on the novel by Stephen King. Movie stars Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins in the lead. The story starts in 1947 where a banker Andy Dufresne [Tim Robbins] is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. But according to him he's not responsible for the murder. After all the legal procedures he's sentenced for life long sentence at Shawshank. There he meets Red [Freeman] who had failed to gain parole. Red is the person who is famous for providing you stuffs in there, be it a cigarette or a small rock hammer in Andy's case for making chess pieces as his hobby. Later he befriends some more people out there. In the cell he has to face many difficulties and is bullied by some prisoners too. But at the same time being a banker, he is found to be beneficial for the authorities too. He's successful in establishing a big library for the prisoners and soon becomes the first name on every one's tongue. The drama continues which shows the fate of Andy Dealing with all the things. Its what you're gonna watch next.

The movie itself is a masterpiece. adequately adapted from the novel and brilliantly screened. The direction is simply flawless and maintains the dramatic touch throughout. Tim Robbins making a debut has done an exceptionally good job here. Moreover the famous Morgan Freeman is great as usual. With a running time of about 2.5 hours, this movie is fully packed with drama, emotions and surprises. Few scenes in the movie binds a little humor to enhance the dramatic effect. The dialogues are well written as well. The seriousness of the movie lies within and somewhere it touches a serious issue. The life of prisons is carved out perfectly. The background score matches up with the environment and stacks you with the movie. In short this movie is an example of a perfect movie with no flaws. Truly the greatest movie i have ever seen in my life. This one's highly recommended to all the movie lovers. A must watch and a must in you movie collections.

Ha Phraeng aka Phobia 2

Phobia 2 a much awaited Thai Horror flick for all those who watched Phobia. This sequel is packed up with 5 short stories directed by Songyos Sugmakanan, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Parkpoom Wongpoom, Visute Poolvoralaks, and Paween Purijitpanya respectively. Likely to the first istallment this time also the stories are not related. The Thai release date is quite interesting 09-09-09. It has got the highest opening week collection in Thai history.

Novice

A fourteen year old boy Pey who has committed crime with his friend Tee, is forced by his mother to become a Buddhist novice so that he can escape from the crime he has committed. But his actions disturbs the hungry ghost ceremony in the woods and angers the ghosts. The story flashes back to the crime scene. Who was murdered? What will happen to Pey? What difficulties will he face is all rest.

Ward

A teenager Arthit fractures his both legs by crashing his bike and is admitted to hospital where he had to spend the night in a shared room. There is an old man lying on the bed on the verge of dying and living on the oxygen supply. But somethings strange about the old man. What happens in the ward at that night?

Backpackers

A young Chinese couple goes backpacking around Thailand. They are finally picked up by a truck after several failure attempts. But certainly there's something fishy about the driver. On their way he stops to check the container of the truck. That's where the horrible things is revealed. What was inside the container? What happens next is rest.

Salvage

Nuch is a card dealer, who deals in repairing damaged cars to look like new and selling them again. But people don't know the horrible past of those cars and the mis-happenings. At night she finds her son missing and checks the cameras to find him. She finds that his son climbed up in a car and never stepped out, so she heads to check that car. Will she find her child? Or she's into something horrible?

In the end

Ter, Puak, Shin and Aey are crew members of an upcoming sequel to the movie Alone. While shooting the last scene a cast member goes sick but Puak tell that the show must go on. When situation worsens for her, she's admitted to a hospital where she dies. But her ghost returns on the sets to complete the last scene where no one is aware of her death. What happens next is rest.

Let me tell you that i am a big fan of Phobia so i had much expectations from the movie. And yes it stands there not better than the first installment but still great. This installment lacks the proper story scripts and emphasis is laid on making it a true horror. Its more gory than the first. With a running time of 2 hours it doesn't bore you anywhere and keeps your eyes glues. Obviously it doesn't glues you to your seat as there are a lot of scenes to put chills down your spine and make you jump. Directed nicely this one's worth a watch. Especially the last story is packed with hilarious comedy just like they [Ter, Puak, Aey] did in the first installment [in the middle]. The guys are back to entertain you with the most powerful story of the entire phobia. So go for it when you're alone in the night and get scared.

See Prang aka 4bia aka Phobia is a Thai mystery horror in which four different stories are combined directed by four different directors  Youngyooth Thongkonthun, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Parkpoom Wongpoom, and Paween Purijitpanya.

Ngao aka Happiness

A girl is stuck in her apartment due to fracture in her leg communicates with a stranger through her cell via text messages. She is attracted towards him and finds him quite interesting to talk with. Soon she sends him her photo via cell but when asked about his photo he replies that he's there in her room behind her. Frightened she calls him but in vain. So she tries to find out the person via internet. What happens next is what you're gonna see.

Yang Sang Tai aka Tit for Tat

A group of friends who bullies an inferior child and tortures him to their satisfaction. What happens when the guy sets a curse on all of them. Can they survive the curse or will they die?

Kon Klang aka In the Middle

Four teenagers begin their journey on a remote camping trip.On their camp in the jungle they tell each other ghost stories and fights to sleep in between as according to them the middle man is the safest while attacked by a ghost. On the next day while rafting one of their friends go go missing in the water and the three return back in the satisfaction that he knows swimming and will be safe somewhere and shall find him the next morning. What happens when in the night he returns back?

Teaw Bin 244 aka The last flight

Flight attendant Pim, goes aboard an airliner on a charter flight for the Princess of Khurkistan. On  the flight the princess forms an allergic reaction to something she ate and dies eventually after landing. On a special request Pim is asked to escort the dead body of the princess back. What will happen in the flight is next.

Coming straight to the direction, all the 4 stories are directed nicely. The stories are loose without any direct link to each others. Each of the story is good in itself. But the best is in the middle which offers you the comical yet scary story. There are lots of chills in the movies. The whole movie is scary and chilling. Though the first and the last story may have been edited short. The movie works great with all fans and non fans of horror. A worth enjoyable horror movie with a running time of almost 2 hours which don't bore you anytime.
